A Review-2081

2081 (2009)

2081 is one of the movies, that might not make you cry, but gets to you, depicting a dystopian vision of the future that leaves you with the discomforting buzz, forcing you to introspect, review your better judgment, doubt your choices, “Is it this world that we are heading for, or has it already come to pass?” That’s the beauty of a beautifully made intellectual Sci-Fi and this is one of the best.
The movie website summarizes the plot as:
Based on the short story Harrison Bergeron by celebrated author Kurt Vonnegut, 2081 depicts a dystopian future in which, thanks to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendment to the Constitution and the unceasing vigilance of the United States Handicapper General, everyone is finally equal... The strong wear weights, the beautiful wear masks and the intelligent wear earpieces that fire off loud noises to keep them from taking unfair advantage of their brains. It is a poetic tale of triumph and tragedy about a broken family, a brutal government, and an act of defiance that changes everything.
A great story line coupled with some stunning original score from Kronos Quartet (Requiem for a Dream), narration by Patricia Clarkson and acting by James Cosmo, Julie Hagerty and Armie Hammer, present a "a poetic tale of triumph and tragedy, an unbridled tribute to greatness — great art, great music, great dance, and the greatness of the human spirit." as director, Chandler Tuttle, calls it.
You like me may have never heard of some of these names before, but you will surely remember them after watching this movie. A visual extravaganza packed in 25 minutes, ever minute, every second of this movie is stunningly beautiful and memorable.
